Federal Reerve cuts interet rates for first time this year, sees 2 more cut in 2025

- The Fed lowered the benchmark interet rate by 0.25 percentage points to a range of 4.00$-4.25%.

- This marks the first rate cut of 2025 and the first easing since December last year.

- The decision was made with a split vote, with newly appointed Fed Governor Stphen Miran advocating for a .5 % point cut.

Reasons for the Cut

- The labor market is showinng signs of weakening, with August job gorwth slowing to 22,000 and the unemployment rate rising form 4.26% to 4.3%

- The Fed''s prior (july) statemet described the labor market as "solid,", but this was revised to acknowlege slower jab growth and a slight unemployment increase, though sill at a low level.

- Inflation remains sticky at 3.1%, unchanged from previous estimates.

Nvidia CEO says he's 'disappointed' after report China has banned its AI chips

Huang said he was 'disappointed' after the Finanical Times on Wednesday reported that the Cyberspace Administration of China has ordered companies including TikTok parent company ByteDance and Alibaba not to buy Nvidia's RTX Pro 6000D, a chip that wah made for the country.

"We probably contributed more to the China market than most countries have. And I'm disappointed with what I see," Huang said, " But they have lager agendas to work out between China and US, and I'm understanding of that"

AGI(Artifical General Intelligence) refers to artificial intelligence with human-level intelligence. In other words, it is intelligence capable of understanding, learning, and sloving a wide range of problem like a human, without being limited to specific tasks. For exanple, AGI could perform at a human-like level iin areas such as language understanding, image recoginition, creative problem-solving, and reasoning.

Current AI systems(e.g. ChatGPT, Grok) are classified as narrow AI(ANI, Artificial Narrow Inteligence). specialized for specific tasks, while AGI remains in the reserch phase. If realized, AGI cuold bring revolutionary advancements if fields like science, medicine, and techonlogy, but it may also raise ethical and societal concerns.
